40th Week of Pregnancy

Congratulations! You have finally made it to the 40th week of pregnancy, officially the last, as the baby could come any time now. However, it is natural to go past the 40th week depending upon the baby and his condition. This is the time to relax and wait the arrival of your baby more so if it has come after much waiting. When pregnancy seems to be illusive, the only thing that crosses the mind is how to get pregnant and for that, you are ready to go to all lengths, whether it is medically or otherwise.

Getting pregnant naturally is a boon, but for those women who are unable to conceive naturally even after, much trying and using other methods, the realization of being barren can be depressing. Where parenthood comes naturally to so many people in the world, a woman not able to get pregnant, finds her self in a miserable condition. However, things are not as bad as they seem because there are alternative methods and programs, which help such couples, who have been devoid of this very natural and beautiful gift.

The 40-week pregnancy is almost a full term pregnancy and the baby weighs around 7 to 8 pounds. Your body is ready to give birth and accordingly adjusts itself. The uterus reduces in size slightly, as the baby gets into position to be born and his head slides into the pelvis. This releases some pressure off the ribs and you can heave a slight sigh of relief. During the 40th week pregnancy, the baby is familiar with sounds and it is nice to talk to him/her. After birth, the first thing that the baby recognizes is his mother’s voice.

Since the 40th week could be the last week of pregnancy, you ought to take care and avoid doing things, which may cause harm to the baby. Walking is considered good at this time and therefore, you may take short walk sessions depending upon your ability. These could be the last few days of your pregnancy, so you may enjoy the time and take some sleep because this is one thing, which you would be deprived of once your baby arrives.

By now, you are almost ready to deliver. However, this can be the time when you journal your experience of pregnancy, especially if it has come after much effort. You can talk of the time, when you tried various methods to conceive but were unsuccessful and then what were the things, which led the way to your pregnancy. Was it some medical procedure, a miracle program or anything else? These are memories, which would bring a tear to your eye, not because of sadness but because of the joy of getting pregnant and being able to give birth when you were termed unfit to do so, naturally. You might want to thank that one program, which changed your life for good.
